Due to our current closure we are making freshly made homemade meals that just need reheating at home. Each week we make warming winter meals in limited numbers. Portions sizes vary but usually feed 2 to 3 people. We vary the meals but frequently make the favourites that include Cottage Pie, Steak & Kidney Hotpot, Chicken & Ham pies, Lamb Curry, various pasties including Thai Vegetable. Our quiches are approx. 8" in circumference and can contain vegetarian fillings or meat & vegetables. We also make puddings including bread & butter, pear franzipane, apple crumble and more.

We are seeking 2 part time customer service team members to work in a busy village shop and cafe. Independent transport is essential and experience in a catering front of house role or retail. The role involves cash handling, serving customers, stock replenishment, barista, waitressing, pot wash, cleaning & more. Hours of work possibly 9-1, 11:30-3:30 Mon - Sat, possibly on a rota basis. Our last Christmas Fayre of the year will be at The Hare on Sunday 15th December. Lots of gorgeous stalls and gifts guaranteed. We will have a warming display of Coffee Logs burning in the fire on the evening. 5-8pm.

We have started this years Festive Afternoon Tea's and they are full of delicious fresh homemade delights. Included is a glass of mulled wine, alcoholic or non alcoholic and limitless tea & cafetiere coffee. The last day for enjoying these is Thursday 19th December!

Ardington in Oxfordshire is the first location in the UK to benefit from Link’s pledge to install a free-to-use cash machine in communities that have lost charge-free ATMs.

'PayPoint installed the new machine last week at The Grocer Chef tearoom and general store on Ardington High Street, after the old one was removed by the previous operator.

Earlier this year, Link pledged to install a new cash machine at any location which loses a ‘Protected ATM’, where there is no alternative to free cash access and where a suitable location can be found.

Keith Grieg, owner of Grocer Chef, said: “Our village has seen a decline in vital services over the years, such as cash points and our bus service, so installing this machine will enhance access to cash for many in the community. In a village, a cash point can make a real difference, particularly to those who are not able to travel into town.”'

Vegan & Gluten Free

We now have a great range of Gluten Free and Vegan options on our menus.

We have gluten free bread, scones and cakes as standard and we frequently have gluten free Specials - this week we have Smoked Haddock Fishcakes, served with chips and salad. We also have jacket potatoes, salads, omelettes, gammon steak and more.

We have a home made vegan Vegetable Dahl served with rice. Our bread and crumpets are suitable for vegans, as well as our sorbets, teacakes, chips and we are now able to offer a delicious Cranberry & Sunflower seed vegan flapjack. We now also have vegan sausages and home made vegan scones. Please ask for further details on any of our products.

A vanilla cake flavoured ice cream base, chunks of sponge with a light swirl of strawberry and finished with star shaped sugar strands.

The Grocer Chef gift vouchers make lovely gifts for mum's this Mother's Day. They can be for any value to spend how they choose - breakfast, lunch, ice cream sundaes or for Afternoon Tea. They are valid for 3 months so Mum, Gran/Nan can book for a convenient time for her. They are available to purchase by popping in to see us or by card on the telephone and we can put them in the post to you.

**NEW** Locally pressed Apple Juice from St Mary's Convent in Wantage. Delicious cloudy apple juice with no added extras. Only available direct from the convent and in our shop. You can also enjoy it by the glass in our tearooms. We don't anticipate it'll be around long.

Christmas Fayre

We will be holding our very popular Christmas Fayre again this year on Wednesday 5th December. We will have various stalls all selling hand made or home made gifts, decorations,consumables and will be serving warm mince pies and mulled wine (alcoholic and non alcoholic) for you to sit and enjoy. Additional hot beverages will also be available. It's a lovely festive evening with new and familiar faces all enjoying the time of year. Further details to follow. Below is a small selection of the gifts available.

Home made chutneys have been freshly made and are available in the shop individually or as part of a gift set. They will also be for sale at our Christmas Fayre, if they haven't sold out already.

OktoberFest

Last years Oktoberfest was such a hit we’re doing it again this year!! September 29th at 7.00pm - 11.00pm. So join us for a night of live music, singing, adult party games, schnapps and beer! Traditional German dress is optional although all the staff will be dressed up! Tickets are £25pp and must be purchased from the shop before the night, one ticket entitles you to food, one beer/wine and one schnapps. 18+ only. We’re looking forward to seeing you all again this year.
